At least one person has been killed and nearly a dozen have been wounded in a shooting incident in Midland, Texas, according to Mayor Lori Blong.
On Friday morning, officers responded to reports of gunfire coming from a building in the 46000 block of West Wall Street, according to Midland Police Chief Greg Snow. He added that armored units were deployed and that law enforcement had a standoff with the shooter.
“We do have 11 known victims at this time,” the mayor stated as a news conference on Friday. “There’s at least one victim that is dead on the scene.”
Nine victims have been transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson, who added that five were stable and four were undergoing surgeries.
Blong noted that multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including SWAT, and the suspect was contained.
The city of Midland announced on X that it was aware of the incident and that public safety personnel were responding. It asked the public to avoid the area.
“The active shooter incident has been resolved, and the suspect is confirmed deceased,” the city said on X.
