About The Boston Newsletter™
Est. 1704 – Inspired by America’s First Newspaper
The Boston Newsletter™ traces its inspiration to the historic Boston News-Letter, first published on April 24, 1704, by Boston postmaster John Campbell. Widely recognized as the first continuously published newspaper in British North America, the publication helped establish the foundations of American journalism and public communication. For more than seven decades, the Boston News-Letter chronicled events in the colonies, Europe, commerce, government, maritime trade, and the early development of what would become the United States of America.
The original publication served as a vital source of information for merchants, government officials, travelers, and citizens throughout the colonies. It published reports on world affairs, shipping activity, politics, commerce, public notices, and some of the earliest advertising ever printed in America. The paper continued publication until 1776 during the American Revolution, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as one of the pioneers of the free press in North America.
Today, The Boston Newsletter™ and the Oldest American News Brand is owned by Commissioner Mentz and honors that tradition by serving as a modern digital publication dedicated to journalism, commentary, education, business, finance, leadership, public affairs, technology, and global news. Our mission is to connect readers with ideas, information, and perspectives from around the world while preserving the spirit of informed public discourse that helped shape the American experience.
