England’s Harry Brook has returned to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men’s Test batting rankings, replacing teammate Joe Root in the latest update released on Wednesday.

Brook reclaimed the top position after scoring a half-century in the first innings of England’s 115-run win over New Zealand in the first Test at Lord’s.

Root managed scores of one and eight in the match, allowing Brook to move back to the top of the rankings. Brook had first reached the No. 1 position in December 2024.

Australia’s Travis Head has climbed to second place, while Root has dropped to third ahead of the second Test between England and New Zealand at The Oval, beginning June 17.

There were several other changes in the batting rankings. India’s Shubman Gill moved up two places to eighth after his century against Afghanistan. England’s Ben Duckett gained three spots to reach 15th, while Jamie Smith rose five places to 23rd. New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips jumped 15 positions to 40th following his performance at Lord’s.

In the bowling rankings, England pacer Gus Atkinson moved up seven places to 10th among Test bowlers. He also climbed two spots to sixth in the all-rounders’ rankings.

New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson (22nd) and England’s Ollie Robinson (23rd) returned to the Test bowling rankings after long breaks from red-ball cricket. Nathan Smith also made progress, rising 16 places to 43rd.

In the ODI rankings, Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed was among the biggest gainers after taking six wickets in the series win over Australia. He climbed to second place among ODI bowlers.

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi moved up four spots to ninth after claiming seven wickets in the series. Australia’s Nathan Ellis rose 13 places to 31st, while Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana climbed 23 positions to 24th after his performances in Mirpur.

Among ODI batters, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis moved up to 12th, Janith Liyanage rose to 22nd, and Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan climbed to 33rd in the latest rankings update.
