Bahrain’s government reported intercepted ballistic missiles and drones headed toward Bahrain and Kuwait, deeming the attack a continuation of Iran’s “systematic hostile approach.”

On Saturday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that U.S. forces intercepted the missiles and drones launched by Iran toward the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf countries on Friday.

“Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain hours after U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched toward the Strait of Hormuz,” the command stated on social media. “The attack drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.”

CENTCOM’s initial assessments indicated that six missiles launched by Iran were intercepted and a seventh failed to reach its target.

Bahrain’s counterpart, the General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force, issued a press release on Saturday stating that its arms are at the highest levels of readiness to protect itself. It also urged the public to exercise caution around any unfamiliar objects that may have resulted from the attacks and report them immediately to the Royal Field Engineering Unit.

“The General Command stressed that the deliberate use of missiles and drones to target civilians and private property constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law,” Bahrain asserted.

In return, the U.S. “struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to defend against further maritime attacks,” according to CENTCOM.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it hit the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait, home to U.S. forces, and the Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain. CENTCOM denied these claims.

“There are currently no reports of harm to U.S. personnel, and Iranian claims of damaging U.S. 5th fleet headquarters in Bahrain are false,” the command said.

The attacks raised concerns over the ceasefire Iran has agreed to with the Trump administration. President Donald Trump remained optimistic about the two countries’ chances to end the conflict, however.

“The situation with Iran seems to be going quite well,” Trump told reporters during a Friday event in Wisconsin.

“We’re going to come out of Iran very quickly, and it’s going to be a very strong one way or the other, whether it’s a piece of paper or the very tough way,” Trump said. “The very tough way is maybe the easier way, but we’re going to come out.”
