Four oil executives told Politico the opposite is true, and at least…

J.D. Vance used to represent the future. Early in President Donald Trump’s second term, Vance already seemed a lock for the Republican nomination in 2028. Name recognition, a compelling biography, rhetorical skills, credibility with the “New Right,” and, perhaps most importantly, the seeming approval of Trump himself, who had tapped him as running mate—Vance had it all. No longer. For many voters, Vance now represents a deeply and increasingly unpopular administration that presides over a spluttering economy, geopolitical decline, and a catastrophic war with Iran. What had seemed predetermined—Vance 2028—can no longer be taken for granted. Perhaps that’s for the…

Oil prices lift revenues, but capital discipline holds The conflict in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have pushed ATB’s West Texas Intermediate (WTI) price forecast to an average of US$84/bbl for 2026, up sharply from US$61 in the December forecast. Alberta’s nominal GDP is expected to rise 8.8% this year as a result. Despite the revenue windfall, energy producers remain in a “wait and see” posture on major capital expenditures, citing uncertainty over additional oil transportation capacity and the temporary nature of elevated prices. The WTI price is forecast to retreat to an average of US$70/bbl…
