Horror author Stephen King, who has long been known for paranoid, long-winded rants about his hatred for President Donald Trump on social media, admitted that the president’s construction and restoration projects in Washington D.C. have been positive.

The longtime Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferer offered a positive assessment of the renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. In response to a post by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick describing the site as “simply glorious” with visitors taking photographs and enjoying the area, King replied in agreement.

“Very beautiful,” he said.

The Reflecting Pool, a longstanding feature of the National Mall stretching approximately 2,030 feet between the Lincoln Memorial and the World War II Memorial, recently underwent resurfacing and repainting as part of President Trump’s renovation efforts. The project, along with many others in D.C., were commissioned by the president as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

Work has included systematic cleaning and repairs throughout the National Mall and surrounding areas.

As part of the effort, crews removed graffiti from more than 500 locations and cleared 250 truckloads of debris from ponds and other water features. In addition, 153 homeless encampments were addressed as part of measures to enhance safety and cleanliness in parks and plazas. Twenty-two fountains across the city were restored and brought back into operation, contributing to the functionality and visual appeal of public areas.

Efforts extended to monuments and statues as well. Approximately 28 to 30 statues and around 45 iconic monuments and memorials received cleaning, repairs, or refurbishment. Six new statues are also being installed in various locations.

Supporting infrastructure improvements involved fixing or installing more than 1,100 benches, maintaining streetlights, adding over 130 rat-proof trash cans, and addressing potholes to improve daily usability for residents and visitors.

Officials have noted that the initiatives draw on federal resources to reverse visible signs of decline, with visible changes emerging in the months leading up to Independence Day 2026 and related America 250 programming, including events such as the Great American State Fair on the National Mall.
