National top-100 recruit Gideon Gash commits to Texas Tech football

It’s only about 30 miles from Gideon Gash’s high school to the Big House where the Michigan Wolverines play, and Gash is a consensus national top-100 recruit.

It’s more evidence of the Texas Tech football’s ascent that the Red Raiders are able to coax Gash out of Big Ten country. On Saturday, June 7, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound two-way player announced a commitment to the Red Raiders. Gash attends Detroit Central Catholic in Novi, Michigan, and helped the Monarchs to a 14-0 record and a state championship last season.

He told the On3 recruiting service that Texas Tech is recruiting him to play cornerback.

On the 247Sports composite index of multiple recruiting services, Gash is the ranked the No. 70 prospect in the country and No. 2 in Michigan. In May, he announced a list of six favorites that consisted of Michigan, Michigan State, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

Among the other schools reported to have offered him a scholarship are national champion Indiana, Iowa, Penn State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Auburn and Florida.

Gash is a son of Sam Gash, a former Penn State fullback who played 12 years in the NFL. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and was on the Baltimore Ravens’ 2000 team that won the Super Bowl. He coached in the NFL from 2006 through 2015.

Gideon Gash last season was credited with 74 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, along with 9 pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery. As a wide receiver, he caught 19 passes for 540 yards and 8 touchdowns.

He’s the sixth national top-100 prospect on the 247Sports composite index to join the Red Raiders’ 2027 recruiting class. The others are Cedar Hill defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, ranked No. 1; Baltimore St. Frances Academy edge defender Anthony Sweeney (No. 23), Humble Summer Creek wide receiver Benny Easter Jr. (No. 36), Palestine Westwood quarterback Kavian Bryant (No. 45) and Argyle wide receiver Julian Caldwell (No. 93).
