Now the series shifts to Madison Square Garden with the Knicks up 2-0

The New York Knicks are two games away from their first NBA championship since 1973. New York opened up the NBA Finals with consecutive road wins over the San Antonio Spurs to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. And Game 2, a 105-104 Knicks win, was a thriller.

The Knicks led by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the Spurs stormed back and even took a late lead — 104-102 with 57.3 seconds remaining. But the Spurs would not score again. Jalen Brunson responded with a clutch midrange bucket and then put the Knicks ahead with a free throw after a costly Victor Wembanyama turnover and foul with 9.5 seconds to go. Wembanyama then missed what would have been the winning jumper, allowing New York to escape.

New York’s Game 2 victory came on the heels of a 14-point second-half comeback win in Game 1. And now the series shifts to New York City and Madison Square Garden for Game 3 on Monday night — the first Finals game at MSG since 1999.

The Knicks have now won 13 consecutive postseason games. Can they keep it going and take another step toward a sweep? Or will the Spurs find a way to respond on the road? One thing is for certain: a new NBA champion will be crowned for the eighth consecutive season.
