In this interview, Ralph Haberli, chief executive officer and president of Edelman Financial Engines, discusses the next era of wealth management and what will define it.

Core advice is expected to remain grounded in goal-based conversations and active listening, while technology—particularly AI—will enable deeper capabilities across tax, estate planning and investments.

To prepare for the future, Edelman’s approach is to democratize advice by meeting clients where they are, especially through workplace channels such as 401(k) plans, then expanding planning as needs and assets become more complex.

In a tech-saturated future, keeping advice more human—emphasizing empathy and emotional insight—will become key strengths for advisors.
